Emily and Blake’s Cornish clifftop marquee wedding

Having docked at Pendennis Shipyard, Blake – who hails from Australia – set eyes on Emily during a night out in Falmouth with the crew of the superyacht he was working on. The pair then saw each other every day until he had to leave. “I flew out to visit him in various places and he would come to see me in the UK when he had time off,” says Emily.

Some years later, the couple went for a dog walk to Pendennis Point. “It was one of the first places where we went for a date. Blake had made a ‘marry me?’ sign spelt out in lights and a picnic basket with champagne and all of my favourite foods,” she reminisces. “We then went to Gylly Beach Café in Falmouth where he had organised for our friends and family to meet us.”

Choosing Restronguet Barton as the venue for their ceremony and marquee reception, Emily’s favourite colour – lemon – was woven throughout the day, from the lemon yellow décor, flowers and bridesmaids’ dresses to the dried lemons adorning the cake.

The wedding began with an outdoor ceremony, on what was one of the hottest days of the year. Emily’s arrival was a standout moment, with the bride-to-be surprised by her mum with a horse and carriage to travel in! “When Emily realised she was arriving by horse and carriage, she couldn’t believe it,” says Blake. “She always joked about having one but never thought it would happen. Her mum booked it as a surprise and nobody knew.”

“We had a ceremony that was very light-hearted and personal to us, thanks to Sabine Smith, our amazing celebrant,” continues Blake. The couple celebrated their newlywed status with welcome drinks and grazing platters, as saxophonist Daniel Costin provided the soundtrack and guests soaked up the beautiful weather before the wedding breakfast.

“Blake being Australian meant we had lots of guests from Australia, so it was only right The Aussie Smoker did our catering!” says Emily of the barbecue sharing platters that guests feasted upon.

A live band played an acoustic set and evening guests started arriving as Emily changed into her second dress of the day. The dance floor opened with the couple’s first dance to Toploader’s Dancing in the Moonlight, and the guests kept the floor buzzing until midnight.

Looking back, the couple are thrilled with their magical wedding. “Our whole day was so relaxed and laidback, which is exactly what we wanted,” says Emily. “We had guests from all over the world travel to Cornwall so we felt very lucky. We also had our boxer dog Belle as our ring-bearer. She is our baby so it meant everything to us that she was part of our special day.”

The couple’s top tip for other busily planning couples is to book a videographer, if budget allows. “The day goes by so quickly, it’s such a special thing to be able to watch and relive the day,” she says.
