CELEBRATING 50 ISSUES OF WED!
As I sit here to write my editor's letter for this, the 50th Cornwall issue of Wed Magazine, my mind is swimming with memories from the past 13 years. There have been so many highs: incredible photo shoots in amazing places; the thrill of seeing Wed grace the shelves of the WH Smith branch I used to work in; five spectacular Wed Shows; honeymoon reviews in the dreamiest places (Scilly being a favourite!); food shoots where we got to devour all the delicious dishes (and drinks!) - and working with the most wonderful bunch of warm and talented people you could ever hope to meet: wedding industry of Cornwall, we salute you!
Of course, there's been a few lows: many lonely nights working late into the small hours; sacrificing holidays; replying to emails and fielding calls within hours of childbirth and surgeries; juggling Wed, my first baby, with my two real babies and the inevitable mummy guilt that sets in every time I approach a deadline.
But I wouldn't change this journey for the world - and I feel so fortunate that I get to enjoy it with my husband, Brendan. When we set out our plans for Wed Magazine over my parents' kitchen table back in 2006, we never dreamed we'd be here, almost 13 years later, publishing our 50th issue. The wedding world has changed dramatically over this time, exploding with creativity and personality. It's been so exciting to be part of this movement. My favourite part of running Wed is still hearing about your amazing love stories and weddings - getting to look at beautiful wedding photos every day and call it 'work' still makes me want to pinch myself. And the honour of being part of your journey at such a momentous time in your lives never ceases to thrill me.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without the support of our tiny, loyal and hugely talented team. Hannah, our chief features writer, and Matt, our designer, have been with us since our very first issue, back in 2007, and my sisters Jenna and Morwenna joined us soon after, taking control of the finance and distribution. Lucy, our deputy editor, completed the team perfectly when she joined us in 2017. We must also extend a huge thank you to Cornwall's wedding industry for believing in us - and for being so dedicated and downright brilliant at what you do. It's an exciting time to be planning a wedding in the county.
While we like to think of each issue as a celebration of Cornwall, in this very special issue you'll see the beauty of the extraordinary place we call home shine through every page. We've loved putting it together for you. Enjoy!
