It was entirely fitting that actors Kate and Craig tied the knot at Trelissick - it was, after all, the backdrop to their first meeting. "During summer 2005, we performed in a play together at Trelissick," says Kate. Craig proposed in 2009 over a champagne picnic on the living room floor of their unfurnished new flat, and the couple married six years to the very day that they had got together: 10th September 2011.
Being based in London, the couple found the help of wedding planner Sarah Vaux invaluable. Opting for a vintage tea/street party theme, the wedding was awash with chic details. English country hedgerow flowers spilled from vintage crystal vases, jam jars and containers, which made for a vision of prettiness alongside vintage crockery and stationery embellished with a floral design and 'Live Laugh Love' - a motto that sums up their day.
Kate donned a glamorous lace fishtail gown, teamed with red peep-toe rosebud shoes and a Jenny Packham headpiece. Her bridesmaids chose their own individual take on the vintage look teamed with elegant period hairstyles.
The groom's party and guests travelled by boat from Falmouth to Trelissick and walked through the gardens to the Orangery, where the ceremony took place. Featuring a selection of personal readings and musical performances from friends, this proved to be the couple's highlight of the day. "The ceremony had the perfect balance of meaningful moments, fun, creativity and laughter," Kate comments. "During the signing of the register, everyone joining in with a sing-a-long to 'All You Need is Love!' complete with arms waving and improvised sound effects!"
A play list of wartime and swing music provided the soundtrack to the wedding breakfast in a marquee located in the Stable Yard - the very spot where the couple had performed that fateful play. Drawing on the influences of Kate's Cornish and Craig's Welsh heritage, the canapes included Cornish crab, Welsh rarebit and mini Cornish cream teas. As a nod to the street party theme, guests tucked into bangers and mash and Roskilly's ice cream.
The speeches made for another standout moment. "As Craig played the 'groom' in Westlife's video for 'The Rose', his three best men used a projector to play their own take on this video that they'd filmed themselves! The whole wedding party crowded around the projector and there were roars of laughter!" says Kate. The evening disco saw guests dance the night away to a top-notch play list.
"Let your imaginations run wild!" Kate advises those in the throes of planning. "Cornwall is the most magical place to get married with the most magical wedding industry - make the most of the amazingly creative minds that are around you." She adds, "Handpick everything so that it has meaning to the both of you - all our inspiration came from the fact that we'd met doing a play at the venue, and every detail had a meaning to us."
