A Vintage Kind of Love

Amy and Jason go way back. They knew each other distantly at school, but their official meeting came at Bodmin Boxing Club four years ago. "We were put together as sparring partners and every week Jason would ask me when I was going to go out with him. After much persuasion on his part, I gave him a chance. We began dating and really hit it off!" Amy says.

After Jason's romantic riverside proposal at Penpol Creek - complete with a picnic, Amy's favourite chocolates and Jason bending down on one knee despite the muddy riverbed - planning commenced for their vintage country wedding.

"I fell in love with peacock blues and cherry reds so they became the chosen colours for our wedding," Amy says. The pretty hues made for glorious floral arrangements by Fleurtations, from the colour-pop bouquets to the ethereal floral headdresses. Keen for their wedding to be awash with unique details, many elements were handmade by the couple's family and friends, including the bunting, flower girls' dresses, the original artwork for the invites and hand-painted butterflies for the table names.

"I grew up in Lanivet and the church is very important to me. There is nowhere else in the world I would have got married," Amy says. Seeking somewhere close to the church for their vintage reception, they decided on the grade II listed War Memorial Hall just outside of Lanhydrock. "It was a blank canvas which meant we were able to put our stamp on the wedding!" Amy explains.

After the ceremony, the newly-weds headed to Lanhydrock and Respryn with the wedding party and their beloved dogs for some photographs. On their arrival at the reception, they were greeted by Bodmin Morris Dancers who danced them inside, setting the tone for the evening celebrations where a disco and folk/gypsy band Biere De Luxe filled the dance floor with their uplifting tunes. Caterer Tink Gaskell's culinary wizardry added to the day's delights, from the delectable canapes to the gastro buffet wedding breakfast.

"The whole day was magical, unique and totally us," Amy reflects. "It was a lovely handmade affair and turned out better than we could have wished for!"

She has plenty of words of wisdom for brides-to-be: "Definitely make a scrapbook and/or a Powerpoint presentation of all your wedding ideas." She adds, "It's not about the venue you choose - it's about the people you have at your day. Making memories with my new husband and all my important family and friends is the thing I will never forget."
