Lydia and Craig first set eyes on each other at the hair and beauty salon she worked in at the time, and Craig seized a romantic moment to propose during a two-week tour of Italy. “The proposal took place in Sardinia,” reveals Lydia. “We visited Venice, Florence, Rome and finished with a week on Sardinia. One evening, we were sat outside enjoying the view with a bottle of wine and Craig popped the question.”
Tredudwell Manor was the scenic backdrop for their clean and classically styled wedding, which saw the venue adorned with a colour scheme of white and gold. The simple yet striking floristry comprised just one bloom: white roses, which were scattered everywhere from the bridal bouquet, buttonholes and pew ends to the tabletops and gorgeous tiered cake.
The attire was equally as stylish, featuring the bridesmaids’ silk gold cowl neck frocks, Craig’s classic tux and Lydia’s scooped sweetheart gown with floral embroidery and delicate off-the-shoulder tulle sleeves.
Lydia and Craig handmade much of the décor themselves. “We created our own welcome signs, menu and order of the day,” says Craig of the lovingly homespun look and feel of their day.
Opting for an al fresco ceremony full of ambience, the couple exchanged their vows surrounded by friends and family along with the wild natural beauty of Tredudwell. “We placed white rose petals on either side of the aisle and the pagoda where we were married was decorated with lots of white roses and greenery,” adds Lydia.
Confetti, photos, garden games, champagne and canapés followed. The cutting of the cake took place before a sit-down meal of Devonshire slow-roasted Dexter beef brisket accompanied by garlic crispy roast potatoes and slow-roasted San Marzano tomato, with the wedding cake served as dessert.
The speeches paved the way for a moment which stands out for the couple and guests alike. "Our favourite moment was when Craig and his groomsmen and friends stood up and sang the folk song Little Eyes," says Lydia. "There were probably 20 of them and everyone started joining in on the chorus. I had no idea he was going to do it, so it was a complete surprise!" Eva Cassidy’s Songbird made for an equally memorable first dance. “The song has lots of meaning for me and we choreographed a little routine with a few dips and lifts in it,” she reminisces. A bespoke playlist meant the dance floor was in full swing throughout the evening's festivities.
Looking back on their wedding journey, Lydia and Craig suggest taking a bite-sized, step-by-step approach to the planning process. “We did a little every evening,” she says. “We put aside an hour to work through the spreadsheet and make sure that we had everything in order, without it building up.”
