Connecting online in 2011, Laura and Sam chatted on the phone for hours before meeting for their first date – and they clicked straight away. “I knew Sam was my soulmate – even laughing with my mum that I would marry him and have his children!” says Laura.
Seven years later, the couple were living in Cornwall and expecting their first child when Sam proposed on Christmas Day. "He told me to close my eyes and said that he had one last gift for me,” she says. “When I opened my eyes, he was down on one knee with a beautiful ring. I couldn’t believe it!”
It didn’t take long for the couple to succumb to the romance of Trevenna. “We loved the natural rustic charm, the beautiful barns with so much character, an abundance of views and soft twinkly lights,” says Laura, who decided on a colour scheme of soft blush tones and greens to tie in with the beautiful Cornish countryside. “As we were getting married in October, we wanted it to feel cosy and autumnal yet still light and bright, and I think the pink touches helped to do this.”
Donning her romantic gown with its gorgeous floral detailing, Laura’s favourite memory took place just before the ceremony. “My wonderful dad and nannie came to have a first look at me in my wedding dress,” she says. "This meant the absolute world to me and our family, and I am forever grateful for this memory and the beautiful photographs that we have of this moment.”
The light and airy Garden Venue, with its floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the grounds, allowed the couple to enjoy the beauty of the natural surroundings without worrying about the weather as they exchanged vows. “I walked down the aisle to an instrumental version of Wildest Dreams by Duomo,” says Laura. “I had been listening to this song in the months leading up to the big day, picturing our wedding, and it really helped to calm my butterflies. The sun dappled the room and clouds gently rolled across the moors outside; it was very picturesque and the most perfect backdrop.”
Everyone spilled outside into the crisp, autumnal sunshine for a confetti toss, canapés and drinks. “A few speeches later and we all tucked into our glorious wedding feast – Trevenna really know the way to your heart with their food and generous portions!” says Laura. A menu featuring duck and orange salad, Cornish cured deli meats, classic lamb roast, chicken with crispy Cornish pancetta, warm pear and almond tart and triple chocolate brownie went down a treat.
Changing into her second wedding dress, Laura and Sam danced to L-O-V-E by Nat King Cole. “It was lovely to be surrounded by family and friends, celebrating our love and marriage,” she reflects. “Everyone danced the night away and it really was the most perfect day from start to finish. We went to bed buzzing from so much love and laughter!”
Alongside the wedding excitement, Laura and Sam also had the joy of a second child to look forward to. “Only a handful of family and friends at our wedding knew that we were expecting our second baby and it was so exciting knowing that I was walking down the aisle with our little Rose in my tummy!”
She concludes with some sage adive for planning: “Take your time and decide on what look you really want for your day before committing to any purchases.”
