Amy and Sam fell for each other while working on a resort, which led to a beautiful proposal in the couple’s favourite place: Tresco on the Isles of Scilly. “We then decided to get officially married in Tresco and have our blessing and reception in Watergate Bay,” explains Amy.
The first wedding to take place at Lean’s Field, overlooking the dramatic north coast cliffscape, the couple planned an al fresco blessing ceremony and tipi reception styled with a glamorous palette of black and gold. “I have always loved black and gold, and the theme fit perfectly for our celebration. My dress was a light champagne gold and the wedding party wore black,” explains Amy, who finished her look with metallic heels and a stunning bouquet of dark blooms and foliage.
Every detail carried the striking colours, from the arrangements of flowers, foliage and pampas grass to the contemporary stationery and shimmering tableware. Even the showstopping toers of macrons were finished with gold accents.
“I asked the best man to go down the aisle in a wedding dress with my father first, to surprise Sam and the entire wedding party,” she laughs. “It was a hilarious moment with so much laughter and many smiles. The best man then got changed and we reset for my entrance.”
After the blessing, saxophonist Daniel Costin provided the soundtrack while guests mingled and enjoyed the entertainment. “We had a volleyball court set up and had electric skateboards that all the guests played on (and many fell off!),” says Amy. “It was a great laugh.”
Guests were similarly captivated by the barbecue feast featuring Wagyu beef burgers, halloumi burgers, wild boar hot dogs, Greek chicken skewers, sticky Jack Daniel’s wings and salads, while Domino's pizzas were delivered in the evening to ensure everyone was fuelled for the dance floor. With a photo booth, firepits and a live music from The John Adams Band, guests were treated to non-stop entertainment before fireworks lit up the sky over the sea.
In a day filled with happy memories, Amy finds it difficult to pinpoint her favourite moment. “I loved being with my favourite people,” she smiles. “It was incredible to see people laughing and having a wonderful time and then, looking back at the pictures, you feel it all over again.”
And while it might be common advice, Amy is adamant on the one thing couples should avoid when planning a wedding. “Most people say it, but do not sweat the small stuff!” she affirms. “I was so worried about things like candles, covers for the hay bales, what products I wanted for the bar and the like. In the end it didn’t matter."
"Enjoy the planning as much as you can because it’s all over so quickly. Remember the day is about you and no one else, so make sure you enjoy it and choose things that you love,” she adds. “Oh, and sweets are a big hit!”
