"On a wet, blustery day, I was standing on a coastal path with Andy after he had been away working for nine weeks over Christmas," reveals Jayne. "He had forced me out of our cosy house to go on a dog walk and to say I was unenthusiastic was understating it! Near the end of the walk, overlooking the sea, he knelt on the muddy path and proposed to me!"
Planning began in earnest for their autumn wedding at Dartington Hall. Jayne, who runs wedding floristry and styling service Flourish, threw herself into the styling, opting for a gorgeous mint green, pink and gold colour scheme. "The theme was countryside glam luxe with pheasant feathers and lots of sequins and glitter," she elaborates. "I did my own flowers, from the buttonholes to the wedding arches. I also made my bouquet, the bridesmaids' bouquets and all the hairpieces."
The huge floral centrepieces arranged in gold vases, the show-stopping cake and the mint, pink and gold tones of the table linen and chair covers made for a stunning scene. The bridal party perfectly complemented the aesthetic: Jayne wore an elegant Ian Stuart gown, while two of her bridesmaids wore coral dresses to beautifully offset the other bridesmaids' mismatched gold sequin frocks.
Enhancing the magical ambience, pianist Hannah Williams played during Jayne's grand entrance to the ceremony. After the vows, guests indulged in cocktails and canapes before settling down to a feast of grilled Gevrik Cornish goat's cheese and Dartmouth Smokehouse smoked salmon followed by roast sirloin of local beef and roast rump of Devon lamb. The cake, which featured a tantalising selection of the couple's favourite flavours, made for a delicious dessert. Live band Joker kick-started the evening party, ensuring the floor was filled with revellers into the early hours.
Looking back at their day, Jayne share her standout moments. "Andy's speech was fantastic. It captured everything; it was emotional, funny and truly honest!" she recalls. "Also, walking down the aisle and seeing Andy waiting at the bottom was very emotional and up there on my long list of favourite moments."
When it comes to advice, Jayne recommends sharing the load. "My lovely bridesmaids and family stepped in to help me at a moment's notice - not only in setting up the wedding, but I had two amazing hen dos, which was so special for me. So let people help you!"
"Also, before the wedding have a trial run with your dress, all your accessories and the underwear you are going to wear - just to make sure it's all perfect," she continues. "I was going to wear a J.Crew necklace but when I tried it on with my dress it just didn't look right, so I opted for a 'something borrowed': a beautiful necklace from my grandma."
