Penny and Mark were introduced through a mutual friend at a pub quiz in 2012. "We hit it off straight away and it didn't take very long at all for me to realise that Penny was the only lady I wanted to spend the rest of my life with," says Mark. Having only been together for a matter of months, he proposed to Penny at Trelissick Gardens.
Fittingly, they booked this poignant place for their wedding reception, while St Just in Roseland Church proved the idyllic setting for their ceremony.
Planning started in earnest, with Penny gathering ideas on Pinterest and picking a soft pastel colour scheme spliced with accents of teal. Their wedding looks were equally inspired. The flower girls' ballerina style dresses perfectly complemented Penny's stunning lace gown, while Mark looked dapper in a classic grey three-piece suit with teal paisley tie and brown Carlton Oxford shoes.
Budding florist Penny arranged a medley of blooms in blue, pink and pastel shades, which added a stunning splash of colour to Trelissick's converted barn - where the reception took place - as well as the bouquets, buttonholes and floral head crowns.
Starting the day at the Greenbank Hotel, everyone took the King Harry ferry over to the Roseland, where the picture-perfect church provided the backdrop to Mark's fondest memories of the day: "Turning around and seeing Penny walk through the door to the church for the first time and then sitting down next to her for the first time as her husband in the church - I couldn't take my eyes off her!"
After the beautiful and heartfelt ceremony, everyone crossed the water again before disembarking at Trelissick, where they were greeted by champagne and canapes after weaving their way through the gardens.
With appetites suitably whetted, a delicious wedding breakfast was served. A starter of Cornish crab cakes was followed by West Country farmed roast chicken with a wild mushroom and bacon stuffing and masala sauce. The sweet finale took the form of fruit crme brlee with a thyme shortbread heart.
The ensuing speeches provided a standout moment for Penny: "The whole day was amazing, but my Dad's speech was particularly touching and a wonderful moment I will never forget," she recalls.
Penny and Mark's first dance routine to 'Ho Hey' by The Luminaars heralded the start of the evening reception, which saw Kaj providing the "amazing" party soundtrack. The evening also featured a rather novel twist. "We had one of ushers run around with a Polaroid camera taking photos of all the guests to put in our future wedding album. These photos were hilarious and really special to us. We also had all our guests write a paper message, roll it up and place in it a glass bottle for us to smash open and read on our first - paper - wedding anniversary," explains Mark.
Being heavily involved in the planning of the day, Mark shares his advice on savouring the moment. "Make a plan to have some just 'you' time too so you can enjoy it together," he advises. "We planned ours well and we had loads of time to catch up with each other."
