A mining backdrop for the latest romantic gowns

The historic romance of Poldark's Cornwall is conjured in this atmospheric shoot, where cliffscapes meet mining landmarks and the sea to spellbinding effect

Photographer Joey Lamb explains the inspiration and execution of his recent shoot captured amongst a gorgeous piece of West Cornwall's world-famous mining landscape...

"Set in a stunning dramatic Cornish coastline location surrounded by amazing local wildlife, the mine stands next to an ancient monument. The location shows a vast cross section of how Cornwall has grown, fallen and risen again. We felt this shoot would be creative and visually stunning, using all backdrops available from sea, to rugged ruins to industrial beauty. We also wanted to show the beauty within the industrial side of our Cornish heritage."

"I had great pleasure working around the mines, and being thrown in their shadow was a constant reminder of the great mining age that put Cornwall on the map."

"I wanted to create a simple, vintage look that was also elegant and beautiful. The wedding dress chosen for the photo shoot had a unique style, with lace, long sleeves and distinctive waist detail."

"We kept the colours soft and muted, which we incorporated with the make up and bouquet of flowers. The flowers were a mixture of succulents and we used a lot of red tones, for instance with the choice of flowers, to work against the model's hair and skin tone and create more aesthetically pleasing images. We also used a model with distinct tattoos, which we felt added a unique and modern twist."

"Andrea of Simply Bridal Hair finished the hair with a relaxed finger wave that allowed the light to bounce off the gorgeous auburn coloured hair. It was also a welcome contrast to the outside backdrop."

"Twigs and Greens was inspired by the industrial-meets-rural feel of Geevor, near Pendeen, Jen chose flowers in muted greys with accents of dark pink and reds as a nod towards the beautiful heathers and colours of the Western coastline paired with locally grown succulents, emphasising a true seasonal winter feel."

"Kerra Griffith focused on the make up for this shoot. The model had such great features that really spoke for themselves, Kerra chose a soft vintage look for the eyes and added a bold red lip to create a dramatic look."
