Wedding styling: whimsical autumn florals

Embracing late summer and early autumnal floral styling at Trevenna

Nestled amidst Cornwall’s rural heart, Trevenna provides the ‘elegantly wild’ backdrop for this styled shoot, whose new space, the Mowhay, is showcased with high-octane floristry inspired by the warm hues of early autumn. The new ceremony space opens via huge sliding wooden doors into a spacious bar that looks out onto the picturesque country setting: the perfect place for free-roaming post-nuptial drinks outside.

“The inspiration came from locally grown flowers, with a particular focus on the delicate and graceful cosmos flower,” explains stylist and florist Marina Law from Artem Florum. “Its dainty, dancing petals provide the perfect touch for the theme of the shoot with its slightly whimsical vibe.”

Focusing on two separate hanging installations for statement impact, the first was designed to float at the end of the aisle with an ethereal air, while the second presents a bolder look “that we playfully referred to as a ‘floral bomb’,” says Marina. The chandelier-like design incorporates an array of textures and colours including myrtle, preserved beech, eucalyptus and clematis, providing a wow-worthy centrepiece that’s easy to reposition elsewhere after the ceremony.

Simple and chic tablescapes place the floristry front and centre, and feature small white bowls sprouting single stems of cosmos from kenzans: miniature pin frogs used in the Japanese flower arranging art of ikebana. The effect is one of mindful and delicate minimalism, which contrasts with the maximal arrangements and dramatic bridal wear. An alternative vision emerges outside, where wooden trestle tables are dressed with dazzling, eye-level floral displays that blend with the greenery of the rolling hills beyond.

The two-look bride is a poster girl for modern romantic whimsy courtesy of a sweeping strapless A-line with an oversized back bow, later made more voluminous with a frothy tulle overskirt and veil. Delicate tendrils of hair falling from a loosely gathered updo adorned with a floral fascinator complete the picture of pastoral romance whilst mirroring the blooms’ wildly flowing aesthetic.
