World Inspired Tents Wedding
Tom and Philippa's whirlwind marquee wedding
After Tom's spontaneous proposal at Philippa's childhood haunt, St Anthony-in-Meneage, the couple set about organising their wedding in just four months. "It was hugely important that the day felt like a big party and reflected Tom and I as a couple," explains Philippa. "We wanted it to be fun, not formal - one where everyone could let their hair down and dance into the early hours."
The pair, who first met at Wheal Kitty, St Agnes, where their offices were located opposite each other, enlisted the help of a team of good friends to orchestrate the perfect party in a sublime St Agnes location. Their four giant 'hats' tipis made for a stunning celebration space in a field with views across the coast to St Ives Bay and backed by The Beacon. "It's an incredible spot for a reception," comments Philippa. "It was very important to both of us that we could see the sea and the venue had a really relaxed party vibe."
Taking its cue from Philippa's diamond and sapphire engagement ring, the colour scheme featured an oceanic palette of blue and white, which also inspired Philippa's statement feather headpiece by milliner and friend Holly Young. "I knew Holly would create something a bit rock chick and fun," she explains. "I wanted big blue feathers and a dark blue birdcage veil and the rest was up to her. My Jimmy Choo blue shoes came after the feathers!" Tom also dressed to impress in a navy blue three-piece suit.
Navy tones and playful accessories set the tone for the wedding party. The bridesmaids donned an assortment of navy dresses, while the little bridesmaids looked pretty-as-a-picture in tutus teamed with spotted tights and silver bolero cardigans. The pageboys, meanwhile, wore striped shorts and navy tank tops, and the groomsmen accessorised their suits with blue Converse high tops.
With anemones stirring fond childhood memories for Philippa, she was delighted when Joi from Clowance Flowers was able to source the first early bunches of her favourite flower. Both Joi and Philippa's mum played key roles in arranging the flowers, dressing the tipis and the church with a carnival of beautiful blooms.
After the ceremony at St Agnes Church, guests moved onto the reception at The Beacon where they were met with incredible views with a side serving of oysters, pink fizz and live jazz.
Food was a hugely important component of the day and, once again, a good friend - Ben Quinn of Benedict Quinn Private Catering - stepped up to provide the locally sourced and delicious feast they envisioned. Guests savoured surf and turf 'St Agnes style', with Nancarrow organic ribs of beef and cracked local crab claws, along with Helford oysters with pink fizz and St Agnes lamp spidinis. "It was spectacular," reflects Philippa.
Keen to create an eclectic celebration, the couple planned a continuous stream of live entertainment. The Mississippi Swamp Dogs played five sets from the drinks reception through to the first dance and were followed by a stellar set by party favourites, Jelly Jazz. "The music was incredible. Everyone was on the dance floor, just as we had planned," says Philippa.
"We couldn't have been luckier on the day itself," she reflects upon her magical seaside celebration. "There wasn't a breath of wind and I've never known it so still. We could see the lights twinkling in St Ives and Godrevy lighthouse."
