Set in the grounds of a 500-year-old Grade II listed farmhouse, on the edge of Dartmoor in between Plymouth and Tavistock, Uphill Farm is the ultimate garden party wedding venue. Have your ceremony either in the picturesque stone barn, or in the walled garden, which also plays host to your reception with a beautiful marquee, colourful flowerbeds, established trees, lawns for garden games, a swing and a firepit for toasting marshmallows.
Hosting weddings on Saturdays only from May to September, this ensures you are getting the best from the garden and grounds.
As the team host only up to 10 weddings a year, they have time to get to know you and focus on your special day.
Ceremonies
Uphill Farm is a licensed venue and for your ceremony you have the option to choose from either the old stone barn, with views out over the Tamar Valley to Cornwall, or the open air of the beautiful walled garden, with props that you can use free of charge to make your ceremony look stunning, including lanterns, an arch and peacock chairs.
If you are looking for a religious ceremony there are many churches locally, including the lovely parish church St Andrews at Buckland Monachorum.
Unfortunately due to the ceremony space in the barn being on the first floor, the venue is unable to provide wheelchair access due to the heritage nature of the barn.
Reception
Wedding receptions are held in the Walled Garden. Guests are always amazed to find behind the walls there is a vast secret garden, with pretty flowers, delicious smells and a beautiful marquee. There is plenty of space for garden games to be played while canapés and bubbles are flowing, and a swing to be enjoyed by guests of all ages.
The marquee can either be open sided for the best indoor/outdoor vibes or with the sides on, which have panoramic windows so you will still feel like you are out in the garden regardless of the weather.
There are rustic wooden trestle tables and chairs, place mats, candle holders and other props that you can choose to use free of charge to make your tables look beautiful for your sit down meal. The Fire kitchen within the walled garden will be where all your food will come from, your guests will love the smells and keep coming up to see how everything is being cooked.
New to 2024 is the sound system that includes speakers and microphones for your background music and speeches, and state-of-the-art zone array directional speakers over the dance floor that your band or Dj can plug into. Alternatively you can play your own playlist through it; when you step away off the dance floor the music will not be so loud, meaning that guests can still hear to each other (great for multi-generational weddings).
Food
We are all about food at Uphill Farm. We have an open fire kitchen within the walled garden and guests love coming to see their food being cooked over the flames. We also make our charcuterie from our own free-range rare breed pigs, to be served on our canapés, sharing boards and wood- fired pizzas.
We love serving an abundance of hearty canapés to your guests as they socialise around the garden. Your main meal will be served family style to the tables, on sharing boards and bowls which encourages everyone to talk. Popular choices are our smoked beef picanha with chimichirri sauce and beautiful seasonal pavlovas.
In the evening we serve food from our fire kitchen, meaning guests can come up to order when they want. A very popular option is our pizzas served from our wood-fired oven. The slow-fermented dough is hand-stretched, topped and cooked in front our your guests' eyes.
Drink
We supply a fully stocked bar and make a tailored cocktail menu for every couple. Espresso martinis are a firm guest favourite.
We do not charge corkage for your welcome/toast bubbles and table wine, and we will chill and serve it for you as part of the service. You can either source it yourselves or we can organise it through our wine merchant.
Location & Accommodation
Conveniently situated between Plymouth and Tavistock, we are easily accessible by not only taxis but also public transport, being a short walk from bus stops linking directly to Plymouth Train station, Tavistock and further a field.
We do not have accommodation on site but there are a multitude of B&Bs, small hotels and Airbnbs locally in Yelverton, Milton Combe and Buckland Monachorum. We also have two budget-friendly hotels less than 10 minutes away. With central Plymouth & Tavistock being less than 20 minutes away, you and your guests will have a wide range of options.
Although Taxis from both Plymouth and Tavistock come to Uphill Farm, we encourage the use of more sustainable travel so we can help organise coaches that can pick up your guests and drop them back at the end of the night if you wish.
