“We met through Hinge at the start of the pandemic, which meant getting to know each other through messaging, which turned into phone calls, which then turned in Zooms,” says Katherine of her and Jamie’s lockdown love story. “Eventually, when the restrictions lifted, we bubbled together and met for park walks as thankfully we lived near each other.”
Having met for a number of dates in person at Greenwich Park, Jamie decided to pop the question at the same venue following a belated birthday lunch. “Jamie had packed wine and glasses, unbeknownst to me, and directed us to a spot that we’d sat in on one of our previous dates,” says Katherine. “He was very nervous and so quickly started saying lots of lovely things, none of which I now remember as it all turned into a blur when he asked me to be his wife.”
The couple instantly picked Cornwall for their wedding. “Jamie is from Devoran, and we wanted to have people stay on-site to make a weekend of it,” explains Katherine. “We viewed Boconnoc and just fell in love with it, so when a date became available in August, we had no hesitation.”
Designing a colourful day with a “modern and relaxed vibe” filled with gorgeous flowers in a carnival of pink hues, Katherine and Jamie carefully considered all elements for a wedding bursting with personality.
“We both love music so this was an important part of the day,” reveals Katherine. “Having the string quartet play for 30 minutes before the ceremony was lovely and we could hear them from the bridal suite, which had a very calming effect,” she reflects
After a sun-drenched ceremony on the lawn, guests enjoyed drinks and canapés alongside a lively soundtrack from live performer Kaj. The speeches were then delivered before a sit-down feast of locally caught dishes such as line-caught wild sea bass and Cornish summer berry pudding.
“Our photographer and videographer took us up to one of the fields for dusk photos and looking back at the house – with everyone milling around the cocktail van outside and hearing the laughter – was a real highlight,” says Katherine of a particularly magical moment.
On returning for the evening celebrations, Katherine and Jamie joined guests at the airstream mobile bar for signature cocktails. “The Buffalo team helped us to pull together a list of cocktails that we loved and that blew everyone’s socks off,” she says. It was the perfect fuel for a brilliant night of dancing and revelry thanks to a high energy live set by Truly Medley Deeply.
Looking back, Katherine is replete with advice. “Once you’ve chosen an element, stop scrolling,” she asserts. “It’s so easy to become sucked into the vortex that is wedding planning and second guess yourself.”
“Also, don’t be afraid to source things yourself or explain to suppliers about your budget,” she says. “There are amazing people out there who will respect your budget and be creative with it.” Her final word of wisdom is one worth constantly recalling. “Keep remembering why you’re doing this and don’t let the wedding planning negatively impact your relationship,” she urges.
