"We had one-pot meals on the tables and everyone served themselves, which added to the casual and fun vibe we wanted to be visible throughout our day," says Emma. A festival-style reception with food from around the world was integral to Emma and Ben's relaxed autumnal day that saw beautiful burnt orange and reds mixed with a twist of turquoise. "A group effort of foraging created our magical autumnal forest backdrop," explains Emma.
Having become engaged while island hopping around Greece in 2014, after crossing paths for the last seven years, the couple created a day bursting with the beautiful colours of the season as well as fun pumpkin carving competitions and creative bouquets, buttonholes and table centres made by a very talented friend.
During the ceremony at The Corn Barn, which was dressed simply with fairy lights and rustic foliage, Emma walked down the aisle to Neil Young's theme-appropriate 'Harvest Moon' before the couple held hands in front of their family and friends to say their vows. The bride dazzled in her Jenny Packham gown and Ben looked dapper in tweed punctuated with a burnt orange bow tie; "he stood at the end of the aisle with the biggest smile on his face," says Emma. After being a bridesmaid eight times, Emma wanted each girl to feel comfortable, so bought dresses to suit each maid, all within the same muted colour palette with elegant beading.
Canapes and Prosecco were served on the lawn before guests feasted on menus that featured lip-smacking delights such as lamb shoulder tagine, Merguez sausage with pistachio, coriander and pomegranate, and pinto beans in chipotle sauce with grilled aubergine and lime and tomato salad. "We loved our food!" say the couple, who were inspired to have something unique after attending 12 weddings in the last three years. "Unfortunately, Ben managed to spill red wine all over his white shirt...before the photos!" laughs Emma.
As the evening guests arrived and the couple took to the dance floor as 'The Sun Don't Shine' by Klangkarussell rang out, the sun began to set on their rustic day, but not before the happy couple posed for romantic photographs in the stunning orchard. From there, there was no stopping the guests who enjoyed evening food from the artisan street food van before crowding on to the dance floor where live band Victoriana played modern and classic hits with a folk/vintage twist until the taxis arrived at midnight.
