Can't Help Falling in Love

Hollie and Thomas’ 1920s inspired wedding at The Green

Hollie and Thomas have her eldest sister to thank for bringing them together. “My husband was a friend of hers and, after many attempts to set us up, I finally gave in!" says Hollie. "We actually honoured this during our wedding by placing a matchmaker sign on the back of her chair as a special gift to her.”

After two years together, Thomas took the “perfect opportunity” to propose in front of their one-year-old and his three-year-old son, while dressed as elves around the Christmas tree. “We still laugh about it to this day!” she says.

The Green had been earmarked years before as their venue of choice, serving as the most picturesque backdrop to their Peaky Blinders themed day. “This was chosen due to Thomas’ love of the show and our love of the vintage style theme,” says Hollie. A colour scheme of burgundy, gold and navy blue punctuated with pampas grass beautifully carried the look. “I also added dusky pink to lighten the theme due to the darkness of our other colours,” she explains.

As well as their guests dressing in 1920s’ style, a smattering of décor and props including whiskey barrels, vintage suitcases and vintage candlestick holders enhanced the scene, while the floristry pulled all the details together.

Gathering for a barbecue the night before the wedding and breakfast the next day allowed Hollie and Thomas to spend plenty of precious time with their guests who stayed at The Green as part of their three-day celebration.

Dressed with pampas grass, festoon lights and drapes, the venue's Really Rustic Barn made an atmospheric setting for the ceremony, which began with a stirring performance of Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling In Love by The Swing Kings as Hollie walked down the aisle. After a vows and a poem read by their celebrant, the newlyweds exited to another classic: Stevie Wonder’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered.

The entertainment was a key priority for the couple, who arranged children’s activity packs, outdoor games, a caricaturist and clayzer to keep guests of all ages occupied during the reception.

Food was another highlight, with guests tucking into dishes such as brie, Serrano ham and cherry tomato bruschetta, slow-roasted pork belly, curried cauliflower risotto and slow-braised brisket of beef rounded off with salted caramel cheesecake and raspberry posset.

Kicking off the party in style, Hollie and Thomas relished their first dance to Forever and Ever and Always by Ryan Mack with their wedding party, which featured gold confetti canons halfway through. “Our favourite moment was our last dance to Biblical by Callum Scott as it was lovely to take in all of our wedding day one final time before the night came to an end,” reveals Hollie.

“Take your time!” she implores to other couples by word of advice. “Don’t plan above your means and budget. There is always a way to have the wedding of your dreams at a cost that you can afford.”

She adds: “Always think about what is important to you and your partner and how you can incorporate this so you can both enjoy the day and that it represents your life together and your personalities.”
