Georgia and Josh have known each other since secondary school. “We can't pinpoint exactly when we met,” says Georgia. “We were friends for years before starting to date at 19, ironically while I was at uni in Leeds and Josh was back in Cornwall.”
When Josh’s plans for a pre-Christmas proposal at Polly Joke beach were thwarted by high winds, he decided to pop the question over hot chocolates by their Christmas tree. “He gave me a picture of us from his brother's wedding – the moment he knew he wanted to marry me,” Georgia reminisces. “He’d barely gotten onto one knee before I said yes! It was such an intimate and beautiful moment.”
The couple chose the idyllic setting of Trevenna for their October wedding. Drawing on the season and the venue’s natural beauty, they created a beautiful wedding scene inspired by wild meadows and Cornish landscapes. This vision was brought their to life by Finlay Bray Designs, Georgia’s sister and a luxury events designer and stylist.
A palette of early autumnal colours and seasonal flowers complemented the look. “We wanted it to feel romantic and natural, with plenty of textures and greenery,” explains Georgia. “We loved that the foliage was predominantly from around my parents’ and grandparents’ gardens and woodland.”
As a graphic designer, Georgia ensured their stationery reflected their carefully curated aesthetic. “For the invitations, I wanted guests to feel the thrill of receiving something special in the post,” she shares. The invitations featured deep green envelopes with a bronzed, monogrammed wax seal, paired with a custom embosser and a dahlia oil painting as envelope liners. This cohesive style carried through the signage and on-the-day stationery.
The ceremony space perfectly captured their outdoor-inspired theme, with tall grasses lining the aisle and a meadow-like foliage installation framing the couple as they exchanged vows. “I walked in to an instrumental version of One Day Like This by Elbow. We both shed a tear or two – it was such a beautiful ceremony,” says Georgia. A standout moment for Josh came just before the couple walked out of the ceremony. “Our celebrant, Mel, told us to pause and take in the moment with our guests – it was such great advice,” he reflects.
Trevenna’s reputation for delicious food was another draw for the couple, and the wedding feast of slow Cornish beef with wood-fired roasted sauce, herb-crusted cod loin, triple chocolate brownie and lemon tart didn’t disappoint. “Our guests couldn’t stop raving about how delicious everything was,” says Georgia.
Once the formalities were over, the party began with a floor-filling playlist, photo booth and plenty of laughter and dancing. “It was all happiness, dancing, and pure fun,” says Josh.
Looking back, Georgia recalls the overwhelming love in the room. “The love from all our favourite people – I had a grin on my face all day. Seeing Josh smiling back at me at the altar, my family’s amazing effort getting the venue ready and my bridesmaids being the best – it was all so special.”
Planning the day in just ten months helped the couple stay focused and avoid overthinking. “We followed our gut and went with it,” says Georgia. “Having a Monday wedding in October also helped us to stay on budget and within our timeframe.”
Her advice? “Chip away at things! If you can do something ahead of time and forget about it, do it.”
