Wedding at Pendennis Castle

Festival of Fun

Sara and Jason's alfresco party at Pendennis Castle

After two years together, Sara and Jason decided the time was ripe to join their two families of five children. Jason's rather spectacular proposal took place during a family skiing holiday in the Alps. "He orchestrated a family photo of me and the children to get us together on the mountain and then got down on one knee in the snow and proposed!" she reflects.

The wedding planning started the moment they got home. "We wanted to plan it together and really include all the things we both love as much as possible," explains Sara. The outdoorsy pair knew instantly that they wanted an al fresco feel to the day. They opted for a weekend-long celebration, with an idyllic spot of family land, The Riverfield in Perranarworthal, as their base, and a ceremony in the historic climes of Pendennis Castle. "We sent out handmade invitations with wristbands for guests to wear for camping access, which read 'Jason and Sara Wedfest 13.07.14' and had 'invited with love' inscribed inside."

The wedding transport was an easy choice for Motocross enthusiast Jason. "It was always inevitable that Jason and our sons would arrive by motorbike so Jason chose his Yamaha 465 that he had built himself," says Sarah. "They had great fun riding up to the castle...shades on!"

Opting for a vintage and rustic mood, Sara donned a dazzling lace gown, while her bouquet cleverly combined real flowers with hessian, lace and vintage brooches for an extra flourish of glamour.

Sara's son, Mason, walked her down the candlelit aisle of Pendennis Castle to 'A Thousand Years' by The Piano Guys. "I was so nervous until I saw Jason stood there, a moment I will never forget." After the vows, everyone spilled outside into the sunshine, where the Cornish Ice Trike served ice creams before views across the ocean.

Back to The Riverfield, a tipi took centre stage adorned with a number of features handmade by Jason, including the beautiful top table crafted from an aged oak from the family woods, outdoor benches and a cake table. Guests mingled over Pimm's, Rattler and canapes, before a duck race down the river added a playful touch. "We even had bride and groom ducks and Cornish bunting to mark the end. We all had so much fun watching them go down the river," exudes Sara.

The Gourmet BBQ Co. served up a delicious feast of... which went down a treat, while an array of cakes and sweet treats made by each of the bridesmaids made for a sweetly satisfying dessert.

The Riverfield was decorated with country bunches of picked flowers in jam jars and were so pretty in colour.

The tables were numbered with lots of ones and threes to have a tipi full of thirteens and we had beech logs to hold them in and made them in the shape of motorbike number boards on rustic card.

we were called for our first dance to islands in the stream and then the party got well under way with the very talented small wonder, everyone danced into the early hours inbetween toasting a marshmallow or two on the firepit. Some guests sat under the stars around the firepits.
