Wedding at Upton Barn and Walled Garden

Budleigh Salterton beach was the beautiful backdrop to Matt's proposal to Lianne. "We walked all the way down to the end where the River Otter meets the sea and sat on a washed up tree," explains Matt. "The sun was setting and that is when I asked her."



The couple really had to tap into their imaginations to plan their wedding as the venue they fell in love with was in the midst of being built! "We booked Upton Barn before the barn was completed, mostly because of how beautiful the walled garden and surroundings were," explains Matt. "But also because of how passionate and professional Claire and Richard are about their wedding venue."

A handmade touch carried through the details, from the table runners and oak place mats to the dainty gypsophila flower arrangements, flower crowns and bouquets.



The wedding attire was equally as striking: Lianne chose a gorgeous embellished gown, while the bridesmaids teamed mismatched dresses with matching Converse shoes. Matt, meanwhile, opted for a traditional kilt to reflect his Scottish roots. "The kilt was Locharron hand-stitched tartan in his grandfather's Blackwatch colours," adds Lianne.



"Standing on stage in front of family and friends - the nerves, the emotion, the love, and knowing you get to spend the rest of your life with the person you love: that is the best part," reveals Lianne of her most coveted memory.



Hot cider served in jam jars was followed by a warming winter wedding breakfast of meat and vegetarian stews served with rustic bread and dumplings. A table of the couple's favourite puddings completed the crowd-pleasing feast.

The personalisation continued with the entertainment, with the couple's close friends performing an acoustic guitar set followed by an evening disco that saw their guests fill the dance floor.



Looking back, Lianne and Matt are grateful to have received so much help from family and friends in making their homemade and heartfelt day such a success, and advises other couples not to be afraid of reaching out. "Our tip is to accept every offer of help from people - especially the day before," she affirms. "And buy or rent a Polaroid camera - the photos that you get from it are amazing."
