Choosing the location of their wedding was simple for Julia and Gaz, who met in a Swansea nightclub when he was a fresher and she was a second year student at the university. "We wanted to have our wedding in the place we love most and are lucky enough to live: Mawgan Porth," explains Julia. "We chose to have it in the field at Bre-Pen Farm, which has stunning views over the sea."
The Atlantic Ocean made the dreamiest of backdrops for their individual and al fresco celebration. "We had an outdoor humanist ceremony as neither of us are religious but we wanted it to be personal and special," explains Julia; this was followed by a tipi reception that, put simply, provided "the perfect setting for a lovely meal and a great party!"
A natural looking aesthetic saw a scattering of fairy lights and white paper lanterns spliced with accents of colour via the napkins, hand-painted jars and bottles, and map-patterned bunting. An easel for the day's itinerary and an old stepladder painted blue and adorned with family pictures were amongst the DIY details. Then there were the flowers: Julia's friend Charlotte Cross created gorgeous arrangements featuring roses, eucalyptus, and succulents repotted into painted cans.
After the scenic ceremony, guests were presented with champagne, crudites and a colourful mix of beetroot dips and hummus, fruit and cured meats. The wedding breakfast of smoked harissa pork, roasted new potatoes and salads went down a treat, as did the pork baps, "sensational" macaroni cheese and range of cakes and cheeses served in the evening.
The Futons performed Pulp's 'Something Changed' for the newly-weds' first dance, and continued the electric entertainment by playing a variety of classics "with their own cool twist."
"I can't decide whether it was first walking in with my dad and seeing all the faces of the people we love looking so happy," deliberates Julia of her most memorable moment; "or when just Gaz and I went for a little stroll to watch the sunset and looked back towards the beautiful tipis to see everyone having a great time!"
One thing she is sure about, however, is the importance of savouring the joys of the day. "Try not to stress about the small details - all of the people you love are there with you to have a great time; no one is there to judge your decorations!"
