Set amidst rolling meadows and hills in the heart of Devon, the idyllic grounds and historic, charm-filled barns of The Oak Barn is a dream venue for couples seeking rural escapism and palpable romance for their wedding day. This air of romance is beautifully captured in this styled shoot, which, styled with luscious greens and pastel tones accented with delicate gold hues, offers a modern aesthetic in a timeless setting. “The idea was to capture the essence of the venue’s surroundings, complementing the season as spring turns into summer,” explains Jess Baber of Tide the Knot Wedding & Event Planning, who coordinated and styled the shoot.
The florals take centre stage. Blending seamlessly with the sublime country estate, a series of installations demand individual attention while drawing the eye to the towering treescapes beyond. A pair of floral pillars preside over the couple’s al fresco vows, while mini troughs spilling with small flowers adorn the pew ends. Inside, an assortment of colourful arrangements spliced with greenery are scattered across floor and table, contrasting beautifully with the bare-walled blank canvas of the barn. Meanwhile, the ceremony pillars are repurposed to create a flower backdrop for the top table, which is made all the more dazzling by a hanging lighting installation.
The petal-pretty detailing continues with the signage, cake – which features a selection of delicate stems and voluptuous buds – and, of course, the beautiful bridal bouquet in a palette of sorbet pink, soft mango, clotted cream and deep berry tones.
Used both to blend into the shoot’s aesthetic and as a standout element, the outfits nod to the bloom-filled venue, with the groom’s buttonhole accentuating the warmth of summer alongside his two-piece complete with burnt orange tie and pocket square with animal motifs.
The bridal wear presents modern-meets-classic looks. A floral lace top with silk skirt and simple chignon oozes pared-back chic, while a flowing floral overskirt and bulbous detachable sleeves scream high-octane romance. Finished with a floral headband, block heels and floral chandelier earrings, the result is a lust-have lookbook of covet-worthy styles. As the sun sets on the shoot, the warmth of the season is conveyed through the deep romantic aesthetic, giving way to the promise of everlasting summer.
