'Our first trip away together was to Port Isaac, somewhere I've been going with my family since I was little,' says Jake of one of his and Megan's most beloved places. 'In 2018 we went for Meg's birthday, and I took her on our favourite cliff walk with my hand clutching the ring in my pocket the whole way. We almost got blocked off by some cows but made it to the spot where I pretended to take a birthday photo of Meg with her facing the sea. When she turned around, I was on one knee. It turns out that the land and cows are actually owned by the farm and venue we chose, which makes it even more special looking back.'
The venue was Roscarrock Manor Farm, a working farm and occasional summer wedding venue. 'It was important to us to find somewhere in or near Port Isaac and we absolutely loved Roscarrock,' says Jake. 'The location is absolutely stunning with views out to the sea ' we could not have been happier!'
Selecting a pastel colour scheme for their festival-style wedding, the couple opted for a Sperry Tent dressed with colourful flags, flowers in shades of blue, blush and orange, and a firepit complete with marshmallows and popcorn. 'Jake's mum and sister made us some brilliant signs for lawn games like golf pong, as well as a signpost for the entrance, the order of the day and seating plan signs,' adds Megan. Other family members also pitched in to help, such as the stone place settings handwritten and sealed by Megan's dad.
The couple tied the knot during a church ceremony that Megan reveals was 'the best part for both of us. It was especially emotional after the year we and everyone else had had with Covid,' she reflects. Gathering at Roscarrock after the ceremony, a saxophonist serenaded guests during the drinks reception, which introduced the menu's mouth-watering mix of world flavours including griddled Padstow padron peppers, arancini with squash, sage and Cornish Blue sauce, and skewered tiger prawns.
'We found deciding on our menu really difficult and in the end we went for things we love to eat, which fitted the relaxed, festival feel of our wedding,' explains Megan. Guests tucked into a feast of slow-cooked beef brisket and falafel burgers alongside truffle fries, coleslaw, summer leaf salad and tomatoes with basil and olive oil. Sharing slates piled high with lime, polenta and poppy seed shortbread, damson ice cream, chocolate salted caramel brownies, and sticky toffee pudding provided the lip-smacking finale.
With appetites sated and the speeches delivered, the evening entertainment was provided by live band, Mammoth, who were 'definitely one of the highlights of the wedding', says Megan. 'We particularly loved their '90s medley and their performance of 'The Pretender' by Foo Fighters, which was one of our requests.'
She advises other couples to 'start booking things as early as you can!'. As a result of their organisational skills, Megan and Jake were able to secure two services who they rate particularly highly. 'Our photographer Nick Bailey and videographer Sean White were very relaxed and discreet, which was perfect and something my bridal party and other guests commented on,' she says. 'They are the nicest guys and that made a huge impact on our day. The outcomes were flawless and we now have the most beautiful memories to look back on."
