“We matched online and had our first date at the Royal William Yard in Plymouth,” says Daisy-Mae, reflecting on her first encounter with Matthew. The romantic proposal that followed on the clifftops overlooking Hope Cove in Devon paved the way for a wedding in the wildly romantic cove of Lusty Glaze.
The easy-breezy beach setting inspired the day’s boho coastal styling. “I love dried foliage mixed with fresh roses in natural and blush colours,” says Daisy-Mae, who teamed her off-the-shoulder lace gown with a beautiful bouquet of neutral hues. Echoing the florals, the bridesmaids donned dresses in shades of taupe and blush – “with lots of sparkle!” – and boho braids in keeping with the day’s laidback vibe.
Keen to bring a DIY vibe to the day, Daisy-Mae bought many items from small businesses on Etsy and upcycled others, such as an antique mirror that she transformed into the seating plan. “We dried all the petals for confetti ourselves and made the candle favours,” she adds of their lovingly homespun approach.
Exchanging their own vows on the sand while looking out to sea made for a standout moment for the couple. “We really enjoyed having our ceremony on the sand,” she reflects. “Being on the beach and hearing the waves calmed our nerves.”
The relaxed, summery mood continued with the menu: after canapés and cold jugs of mojitos, guests tucked into a Mediterranean-style barbecue full of vibrant fresh salads and roasted vegetables followed by ice cream in the sunshine. “We had some fun photos and videographer shots using smoke grenades with the bridesmaids and groomsmen before the evening guests arrived,” says Daisy-Mae of one of her fondest moments.
Surrounded by their family and friends holding sparklers, the newlyweds kick-started the evening revelry with a first dance on the beach as the sun began to set, after which live band The Big Strut kept the dancefloor packed throughout the evening. “Dancing the night away to live music whilst looking out to the most beautiful sunset over the ocean was unforgettable. We loved every minute of the wedding day, from start to finish, and are beyond grateful to all those that made it happen!” reflects Daisy-Mae.
“My top tip would be to try and break down the planning into manageable chunks and not tackle it all at once,” she says by sound word of advice. “If you find yourself becoming overwhelmed, take a step back and try and turn the stress into excitement for the day.”
