Flamingos, flower crowns and fabulous food took centre stage at Sophie and Trav's week-long Australia-meets-England wedding celebrations
Sophie and Trav first locked eyes during Trav's trip to Cornwall from Australia on a working holiday. "It was a trip that his family thought would only last a couple of weeks," reveals Sophie. "We met at a work cocktail-tasting night. Cue a Facebook friend request and the rest is history!"
It was during a trip to Australia that Trav spontaneously popped the question "underneath the washing line at his parent's house," laughs Sophie. "Trav assures me he planned to propose a few months later when we were in New Zealand, but he asked sooner!"-
Falling for the sublime location of Porth En Alls in Prussia Cove, Sophie and Trav hired the venue for an entire week of festivities.
"Because we had family travelling over from Australia and all over the UK we wanted to extend our celebrations," explains Sophie. "We managed to have a surf competition on the Thursday evening using a surf simulator, the big day on the Saturday and a Sunday session with Bloody Marys, music, barbecue and an England v Australia cricket match on the beach!"
-Their wedding took an "Australia meets Cornwall" theme, with a "tropical Palm Springs vibe". The decor was central to establishing the look and feel of their vibrant seaside wedding, which included stationery all designed by graphic designer Sophie. The flowers were also a focal point, and one of Sophie's favourite features. "We chose to incorporate some Australian flowers such as protea and eucalyptus as a nod to Trav's nationality," she explains.-
Another idiosyncratic element was the post-ceremony performance by a flash mob. "One of my favourite parts of the day, I'd managed to keep them a secret from everyone!" says Sophie. "The Chorus were amazing and performed their version of 'All You Need Is Love' at the end of our ceremony. Everyone absolutely loved it."
"While we did take other people's opinions into account, ultimately the day was very 'us'," says Sophie. "The weather will do whatever it wants, but be prepared for it," she reminds other couples of one of the common planning pitfalls. "The day before our wedding it didn't stop raining at all. On the wedding day, the sun shone and people got sunburnt! I'd designed my decorations to work either inside or outside depending on what the weather decided to do and that reassured me that even though an indoor ceremony wasn't my top choice, I was ready for it.""
